Family Bonding on Facebook

Social MediaIt’s sometimes rare to see our family complete in a day. If not work, we pay time travelling. Hence, we make less fortunate time with each member of our family. With today’s rise of different social networking sites, we are even more set apart from our family. We often chat to our friends and other colleagues instead of making a big deal with our children, spouse and parent. But actually, social networking sites can be a very nice spot to build a nice camaraderie in the house. There are different sites in the World Wide Web where we can actually spend time with our family members, if not watching videos, playing with online games. One of the best social networking sites to date is Facebook. Facebook is known for its vast number of users all over the world- but we don’t care. It’s not about chatting here. We’ll talk about getting closer to each member of our family.

Different games are seen on Facebook. To date, young people are getting even fonder playing with Farmville and growing their backyard there. You see, you can even make your garden there, though you can’t sell the items. Kidding aside, Farmville truly amaze the young minds of the youths. They learn not just to play but make strategic plans on how to manage their resources. But the most intriguing game available now on Facebook is what we call Tetris Battle. For all we know, Tetris-like games has been available in the past years. But there’s no way Tetris Battle on Facebook can give us the excitement or even connect our children with us. By using our personal computers, or even Android phones, we can have a nice bonding moment with our children playing Tetris Battle. The procedure is just very easy, to make a straight vertical line block-filled. There are even challenges which will definitely get into our nerves. We might overly heat our head, but surely we’ll see funny eyes from our kids, spouse and parents- almost laughing sometimes. But it’s all worth it anyway.

Who said social networking sites are big barriers in improving one’s self? Others might think it negatively, but there are more benefits which these social sites can offer other than the unproductive parts. We can integrate our self-esteem by taking part to chat rooms and share our thoughts there. We can also tweet or post how we feel to show other people how you are. Communication has never been easy with these sites available for everyone to access. And most importantly, these sites, like Facebook, can give us the biggest favor in our entire life-building a happy family.

Making a family is very easy, but building a family is arduous.  We don’t want to ruin our house by ruining our family right? So we should take a slice of time for our family to get in touch with each other. Instead of considering Facebook as a barrier in boosting our family relationship, why not make it as an avenue? There’s always a room for family bonding on Facebook.

Using Web Analytics for PPC

Although metrics like click-through rate and cost per conversion are vital figures for every PPC manager they however do not provide the whole picture. While they can get to know how many visitors clicked on an ad and came to the website they still remain in the dark about what those visitors did once they were there. Now you may think that there is still PPC conversion tracking methods like AdWords conversion tracking. But there’s a lot that still r

emains unknowable if all you’re using are these standard techniques. Web analytics, on the other hand, will give your PPC campaign optimization that added boost by providing extra information that your AdWords interface cannot.

By using Web Analytics for your PPC optimization you can gain much more detailed information regarding the quality of traffic your website is getting. Web Analytics can benefit
your PPC optimization where standard metrics and conversion tracking fail.

Web Analytics can provide you useful answers to additional questions like:

  • Why any given visitor converted?
  •  How many visits to the website did it take for that conversion to happen?
  • What pages did the visitor view other than the one they landed on?
  • Was this their first purchase or they’re an existing customer?

There are many Web Analytics programs out there. Even the most basic ones can perform the following metrics. Among them the most popular program continues to be Google Analytics.

An important and often misunderstood measure is the “Bounce Rate”. The bounce rate of a website measures the number of visitors that land on a website but leave (bounce back) without venturing into the site. In some cases like e-commerce websites, a higher bounce rate isn’t good as that means that very few people who come to your website go beyond the landing page. But what is often misunderstood is that in some cases a high bounce rate isn’t necessarily bad. If your landing page has a lead form then a high bounce rate would mean that people are filling that form and converting right there.

Next comes the “average time on site” metric. It is generally agreed that it takes at least five minutes to place an online order, so any time less than that and it probably means your visitors are not converting. Conversely, if you have a lead form, shorter times are better as it takes even lesser time to fill out a form and any longer than a couple of minutes means you probably need a new form.

Another metric measures the average “number of pages visited” on a website. For ecommerce websites an average of at least six pages, that includes the landing page and shopping cart pages, is optimum. On the other hand, for lead forms an average of 1-2 pages is ideal.

As can be ascertained from the above examples, web analytics data can be effectively applied for PPC campaign optimization but it is important to interpret the data correctly and in accordance with your specific campaign goals.

How to Convert Your Real World Shop to a Fully Online Operation

Fully OnlineSo much of the world has turned to being online, remote, and mobile. As a business owner you may have noticed that while you still have your tried and true in person customers; so much more of your actual business comes in the form of an online order. Have you ever considered removing your overhead for all your physical business needs; the staffing, the location, keeping the lights on, insurance, and everything else which goes along with having a physical store; and turning your real world shop into a fully online operation? It may be worth taking a look at. Here are some of the steps you’ll need to take.

Unofficial Notice: One of the biggest things you’ll have to do is you will have to tease out notice. It might be best to go to those tried and true customers, tell them of your plans and before it’s even official, just act to them as though the deal is done. See how they react. Is it possible for you to get them to “convert” straight off to being online customers themselves? Even before you close your doors?

Official Notice: Of course then you need to make an official notice to your landlord, your electric company, you utilities and other services. You need to manage deliveries which would have been coming your way, you need to re-route your product to your home or ideally a post office box in your neighborhood depending on your volume of physical product. You may just be able to have your products sent directly to your customers and collect the money and pay your vendors from a post mail box.

Re-up Website: If you will be having an increased inflow of traffic to your web address you may need to speak with your web designer just to make sure your hosting can handle the extra traffic. If you think that you won’t be getting too much more traffic you should still speak to your online team about how to get more traffic to your online store. Even though you may have a good amount of online business and you have tried to convert your physical customers to online customers you should always be interested in pushing your business full-tilt. What is the most amount of business you can handle without going mad? That is what you should be aiming for and you should be actively seeking to get that market share.

Gut Your Space: Once your physical shop is finally closed you may look out at your space and become slightly fond of your former years. Don’t let your senses get the best of you; the next thing you should do is gut your space. Fully. That is cobble some friends, see who wants what, (maybe sell some merchandise if it’s got value; otherwise, give it away) and then hire a haul away company or just get a skip bin and do the dirty deed yourself. Even if you’re not a terribly physical person, going in with a sledgehammer and going to town on your space may be oddly therapeutic and may help you destroy your old-business sense of self as you get ready for this new online life you plan to live.

Converting your real world shop into a fully online operation may not be possible for you just yet. However as the world moves away from the physical and to the virtual; as big box chain retailers swallow up tiny mom n’ pops like your own business; getting ahead of the online movement can pay off real dividends for you in the end.

Using eye tracking studies to improve your website design

Eye trackingEye tracking is a very important factor in website design. This is the psychology of how the reader views the page. When you understand this you can design a webpage that will be viewed longer and more efficiently.

Eye Tracking studies have been conducted most prominently by The Poynter Institute. They studied the heat that people’s eyes gave off when looking at common webpages. From news to marketing this is helpful to maximising a website’s potential. Results of eye tracking can affect:

  • Headline Keywords
  • Font Size
  • Creating Hot Spots
  • Navigation Bars
  • Article Layout
  • Images
  • Advertising

Draw Them In

Studies found that headlines were not read in their entirety. The eye reads from left to right. Therefore, most headlines are placed in the top left of the page, just below the banner. This is the most viewed space.

However, eye tracking found that headlines were not read all the way through. You need to get your keywords towards the beginning of the headline or your information may be skipped over.

Control the Focus

Bigger headlines attracted more attention. However, bigger headlines with smaller font below could be passed on by. Studies found that the most read items were smaller type. A headline that was the same size as the blurb below it was more likely to be read all the way through than scanned and skipped. Bold headlines create a draw for the eye and then when you keep the font size readers continued on with the story.

Heat Up the Page

Hot spots are the areas where the most time was spent being viewed by the reader. When you have many articles per page often the page will get scanned. A catchy headline or hyper-local content will keep people focused. If you want people to keep scrolling down the page you need to draw them in with the headlines.

Know Where to Find It

Perhaps it’s because of our writing software we are conditioned to look at the top of the page for navigation. Navigation to the left and right of the main page was viewed but not as much. Navigation on the bottom of the page was often skipped. Interestingly navigation to the right was viewed more than the left.

Style

As people move from the written word to the internet eye tracking studies have found that an article with shorter paragraphs in a single column is viewed more than a multi-column article or an article with longer paragraphs.

The Big Picture

If your image is large and clear it may get good viewing. Images are not as important as we may have thought. Images were often skipped. One thing to note is that people clicked the images even when they were not linked to anything. Put links in the images to make them more useful on your webpage.

The Money Makers

People are getting used to ads on the right of a page and are often not even glancing at them. To maximize ads place them below the banner and above the top headline or work them into the layout of the text.

Keep your website hot by keeping people’s eyes focused on your page. When designing your page be sure to pay attention to keywords and relatable content in headlines. Make your page easy to search with navigation at the top of your page. If you are looking to generate ad revenue work it into your content. Use linked images to get viewers to visit more content. Keeping font size small, but readable, will keep people focused on you.

The Benefits of Converting to a Paperless Office

Paperless officeThere is not that much mystery to the fact that we are living in an increasingly paperless world. Applications you fill out for jobs or apartments are increasingly electronic, the calendars which used to be physical things on our walls are now more and more on our phones or electronic devices, even our books and newspapers have gone into the electronic field. It’s a world those 50 years ago wouldn’t recognize; it’s a world which will be a memory 50 years from today. There are many benefits of converting to a paperless office; some you may have thought of, some you may have not.

Waste: Getting rid of paper in your office, obviously, reduces the amount of waste you are putting out into the system. This is good from an environmental standpoint, of course. However this lack of waste is also a great thing for reducing costs. When you are not making waste with excess paper you are not needing to buy that paper in the first place. Add in the reduced costs for your rubbish removal and you are looking at a two-fisted punch to your office’s bottom line.

Clutter: If you don’t have any paper in your office you are going to reduce your own and your employees clutter. The clutter factor may not come straight into your mind, but how often have you wasted countless minutes, hours or days trying to find some elusive piece of paper which may or may not have ever turned up? When you have clients waiting on the phone or in the room there is nothing tackier than a company many who can’t find his or her paper. Don’t be that person. Instead go for a paperless office and keep all your items filed and formed electronically.

Centralised: Because you are moving in all your documents into a database or company-eyes-only website of some kind you can bet that you will always be able to find things as they are filed. If you think you saw something last month you can search out this document by title, theme, salient points, date, or even the original sender. By having all this information centralised you are also ensuring that everyone in your organisation has access to all the same information. If there is ever any doubt about people’s mishandling of the sensitive information your centralised database will be able to latch onto whoever has had access to that page. The centralised nature of the paperless office also means that the distribution of information as it happens to everyone who needs to see it can be done with ease. No longer are there faxes coming in from a London affiliate that no one in your group will see until Monday; now you all can receive information as it happens and discuss and attack that information in real-time.

Off-Site: Another one of the benefits to a paperless office is that for all the documents you do need to keep you are able to use them as you need them and then file them in an off-site storage facility somewhere. This system adds an extra level of urgency when you do have important papers on hand and the care that is taken with them is definitely translated to everyone whose desk it comes across.

You should also consider going ‘paperless’ with your marketing. That means getting a website developed so your current and potential customers can find out all about your business and the products and services you provide without having to seek out a brochure or bending the ear of your staff.

Going paperless makes a lot of sense for companies in the 21st Century. People are all up in arms about corporate responsibility and unnecessary waste on the environment. Those reasons are good too but going paperless in your office makes a lot of sense for a whole host of other reasons as well.
